Sad panda

Courtesy of Ravious I see that there are no ally targeted skills in GW2.

Ergh.

Remember how we've talked about the revolutionary things that Guild Wars brought to the MMO combat table? I shall quote myself:

"Guild Wars introduced the concept of "Protection" skills, which are cast on allies before damage is inflicted on them, with the goal of avoiding said damage. These types of skills are much more efficient than healing skills, and are really good for the game because they add an extra layer of depth and skill in terms of reading the play of the other team."

On the plus side my rapidly plummeting hopes will minimize my disappointment on release.

Pretty sure there will still be protection stuff, you just won't cast it on anyone directly. Sounds nub to me too, but we are yet to see the master design. It's still too early for Panda tears oh ye of little faith :P

Yes but not targeting things directly is like, paragon skill spam. Difficult to beat, brain-dead easy to play, no good :/

True, but also remember that it's now open world. Paragon style would probably suit helping other players that aren't in your group.

Yes but that doesn't scale very well in open world. Am I going to be able to cast Heal Party on 50 people? That's a tad OP. I guess we will see what happens...

There aren't any dedicated healers remember? Everyone has one maybe 2 heal skills. I'm guessing there is a radius of effect to prevent any skill from being OP. I believe you target the ground, and everyone inside of the glyph gets some bonus. The idea was to allow you to concentrate on the game and not have to be watching a bunch of health bars going up and down.

Like I said, we don't know the master design plan yet. I'm sure it will be hax.
