WoW has PvP only chars now?

I nearly fell off my chair backwards when I saw this:

World of Warcraft 2011 Arena Pass

Blizzard have created a PvP environment where items are 'negated' and you win matches through skill? Is it possible they are finally getting it?

I'd like to know which one of their game designers decided to play Guild Wars :P

Except...

"We invite the most dedicated and skilled Arena combatants around the world to enter the new World of Warcraft Arena Pass"

So it's not open to everyone. And also:

"Registration costs one payment of $20.00"

Still sounds like super fail to me.

It seems essentially only to be a tournament also - 8 weeks in total, with 4 weeks of practice and preparation, 2 weeks for finalization of teams and 2 weeks actual competition.

Then it is done.

So not a general "they get it", but rather a way to get some extra cash from some of the more devoted WoW PvPers and provide some braggings rights for a few of them.

I think design wise, it's a step in the right direction, but you shouldn't have to pay extra on top of your subscription. WoW players are like moths to a flame when it comes to RMT goods.

"A new title and pet for only $20!" :)
